What is LanguageKnow?

LanguageKnow is a free, community-driven platform for learning and teaching the languages of the world. Our mission is to help preserve endangered and underrepresented languages before they disappear. Many languages today have few written records and fewer young speakers. When a language is lost, the stories, songs, and cultural wisdom carried in it are lost too.

We bring native speakers and learners together in one place. Volunteer teachers share their mother tongues by uploading real words, phrases, alphabets, and voice recordings. AI-assisted content gives supported languages a starting library, and the community reviews and verifies entries over time. You can read more about our story on the About page.

How it works for learners

Learning is free and moves at your own pace. You pick a language, then progress through four levels: Beginner, Junior, Senior, and Advanced. You study alphabets, words, and phrases, listen to pronunciations, take quizzes, and practice speaking with instant feedback. At the Advanced level you write short essays that real teachers grade, and you can earn a Certificate of Completion for personal recognition.

You can browse all languages to see what is available, or explore the free Dictionary to look up words and hear how they sound. New to the platform? The Getting Started guide walks you through your first steps.

How it works for volunteer teachers

Teachers on LanguageKnow are volunteers who care about keeping their languages alive. As a teacher, you can create or join a language group, upload words, phrases, and quizzes with your own voice recordings, and review content that other teachers submit. Content goes through peer review to help keep quality high.

Teachers earn recognition badges — Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum — as they contribute, and top contributors can become featured educators. If you have questions before you start, the FAQ page answers the most common ones.

Help teach these languages

These languages already have verified words and lessons, and they need more native speakers to keep growing. If you speak one of them, you can volunteer as a teacher and help preserve your language for the next generation.
