Community Guidelines & Governance

Guidelines for language group management, volunteer responsibilities, and dispute resolution

Last Updated: February 12, 2026

Platform Role & Liability

LanguageKnow acts as a neutral platform provider:

  • We provide tools for community-led language education but do not control or manage individual groups
  • Language groups are independently operated by volunteer teachers
  • Group founders and co-founders make autonomous decisions regarding membership and content
  • LanguageKnow is NOT liable for decisions made by group leaders, including member removals
  • The platform reserves the right to intervene in cases of Terms of Service violations

Important Disclaimer:

By participating in language groups, you acknowledge that group governance decisions are made by volunteer community members, not by LanguageKnow. The platform provides dispute resolution tools but does not guarantee specific outcomes.

Volunteer Teacher Status

All teachers on LanguageKnow are volunteers:

  • No employment relationship exists between teachers and LanguageKnow
  • Teachers are not employees, contractors, or agents of LanguageKnow
  • LanguageKnow does not provide compensation, benefits, or insurance to teachers
  • Teachers participate voluntarily and may leave at any time
  • Recognition points and badges are symbolic only and have no monetary value

No Employment Claims:

Teachers explicitly acknowledge they are volunteers. Disputes regarding "employment status" are subject to binding arbitration per our Terms of Service.

Group Governance Framework

Groups operate under a community-driven governance model:

1. Multi-Approval Removals

Member removals require approval from 3 co-founders (founder + 2 others) to prevent unilateral decisions

2. Mandatory Documentation

All removals must include detailed reasons and explanations that are logged permanently

3. Removal Limits

Maximum 3 removals per founder per 30-day period to prevent abuse

4. Automated Moderation & Flagging

AI-powered systems automatically detect suspicious patterns (multiple removals, vague reasons, discriminatory language, mass removal attempts). Severe violations may result in automatic temporary suspension pending admin review.

5. Notification Requirement

Removed members receive email notification with full explanation

6. Appeals Process

Members can appeal removals to platform administrators for independent review

Fairness Commitment:

While groups self-govern, LanguageKnow provides oversight tools and reserves the right to reverse decisions that violate our Terms of Service or demonstrate clear abuse of power.

Dispute Resolution Process

If you believe you were unfairly removed:

  1. Review the removal notification email with stated reasons
  2. Submit a formal appeal through your account dashboard
  3. Platform admins will review your appeal and respond as soon as reasonably possible
  4. Admin may request additional information from both parties
  5. Decision is communicated via email with reasoning
  6. Possible outcomes: reinstatement, warning to founder, or upholding removal

Binding Arbitration:

Per our Terms of Service, all disputes are subject to binding arbitration. By using LanguageKnow, you waive the right to jury trial or class action lawsuit. Admin decisions are final unless material evidence of Terms violations exists.

When LanguageKnow Intervenes

The platform reserves the right to intervene when:

  • Terms of Service are violated
  • Systematic abuse of power is evident (mass removals, discriminatory patterns)
  • Legal violations occur (harassment, discrimination, illegal content)
  • Fraud or misrepresentation is detected
  • Group safety is compromised

Platform actions may include:

  • Reversing removal decisions
  • Removing founder/co-founder privileges
  • Dissolving groups
  • Suspending or banning users
  • Cooperating with law enforcement if required

By participating in LanguageKnow's language groups, you acknowledge and agree to:

  • Groups are community-led and LanguageKnow is not liable for group decisions
  • You are a volunteer, not an employee or contractor
  • Removal decisions follow the documented governance process
  • Disputes are resolved through appeals and binding arbitration
  • Platform may intervene to enforce Terms of Service
