Recent changes

October 29, 2026: we named our representative in the European Union, the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom (Section 12), said that LanguageKnow does not use your conversations to train AI models, and described how you can delete your AI conversations. October 3, 2026: we described advertising in our mobile apps more precisely (they request non-personalized ads only), removed opt-out links for advertising networks we do not use, stated that signed-in users under 18 are not shown ads, described pronunciation recordings, and added our retention policy for children's information (Section 9). October 1, 2026: we corrected the statement about Apple's tracking prompt and named our current advertising providers.

1. Introduction

LanguageKnow ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our platform.

2. Information We Collect

Personal Information:

  • Name, email address, username
  • Country, state/province (optional)
  • Phone number (optional, for teachers)
  • Bio and profile information (for teachers)

Learning Data:

  • Progress tracking, quiz scores, essay submissions
  • Content viewed and interaction history
  • Certificates earned
  • AI conversation data: full conversation history, feedback provided, identified learning weaknesses, session performance metrics
  • Voice recordings you make in pronunciation practice, which are stored so that your pronunciation can be scored

Teacher Contribution Data:

  • Content uploads (text, audio files)
  • Peer reviews and grading activity
  • Recognition points and badge levels

3. How We Use Your Information

  • To provide and maintain our language learning platform
  • To track your learning progress and enable level advancement
  • To facilitate peer review and content quality control
  • To generate and verify certificates of completion
  • To recognize teacher contributions through badges
  • To communicate platform updates and important notifications
  • To improve our services and user experience
  • To power AI-driven features including personalized learning paths, conversation practice, content recommendations, and automated feedback
  • To analyze your AI conversations to identify learning patterns and suggest personalized exercises. LanguageKnow does not use your conversations to train AI models.

AI Conversation Data

When you use AI conversation features, we store your complete conversation history, feedback provided, identified weaknesses, and performance metrics. This data is used to:

  • Provide personalized learning recommendations and exercises
  • Track your progress over time and identify areas for improvement
  • Generate insights for your personalized learning path

You can delete any conversation at any time on the AI Conversation page, delete all of your data by deleting your account on the Delete My Account page, or contact us to ask for deletion.

4. Information Sharing

We may share information in the following circumstances:

  • Public Content: Content you upload as a teacher is visible to learners
  • Anonymous Reviews: Peer reviews are kept anonymous to reviewers
  • Certificates: Learner names appear on certificates and can be verified publicly
  • Legal Requirements: When required by law or to protect rights and safety

5. Data Security

We implement commercially reasonable security measures to help protect your information from unauthorized access, use, or disclosure. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is completely secure. While we strive to use reasonable means to protect your data, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

6. Cookies, Tracking, and Advertising

Advertising Networks

LanguageKnow displays advertisements to support platform operations. Our only advertising providers today are Google AdSense on the website and Google AdMob in our mobile apps; we do not use any other advertising network. Networks we may consider in the future include:

  • Meta Audience Network (Facebook/Instagram)
  • Amazon Publisher Services
  • Microsoft Advertising
  • Media.net, AdThrive, Mediavine, and other premium ad networks

On our website, Google may use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to our website or other websites, and to measure ad effectiveness.

Advertising in Our Mobile Apps

Our mobile apps request non-personalized ads from Google AdMob for every user. Our iOS app does not request access to your device's advertising identifier; if a future version does, it will first ask through Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt. For users in the European Union and the United Kingdom, the apps also present Google's consent prompt (UMP) as required under GDPR. No advertising or tracking cookies are set inside the native apps.

Users Under 18

We do not show ads, on the website or in our apps, to signed-in users whose date of birth shows they are under 18.

Family-Safe Advertising

All advertising on LanguageKnow is family-safe. Ad content is limited to a general or parental-guidance rating, and sensitive ad categories are blocked.

7. Donations

LanguageKnow accepts voluntary donations to support platform development and language preservation efforts. Donation processing is handled by secure third-party payment processors. We collect only the information necessary to process your donation and provide receipts. Donation history may be retained for accounting and tax purposes.

8. Future Paid Services

LanguageKnow may introduce paid features, subscription plans, or premium services in the future. If you choose to subscribe or purchase services, we will collect payment information necessary to process transactions. This information is handled by secure, PCI-compliant payment processors. We will notify users of any significant changes to our service model.

9. Children's Privacy (COPPA Compliance)

LanguageKnow complies with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). We take special precautions to protect the privacy of children under 13 years of age.

For Children Under 13:

  • We require verifiable parental consent before collecting any personal information
  • Parents can review, delete, or refuse further collection of their child's data
  • We collect only information necessary for educational activities
  • We do not condition participation on disclosure of more information than necessary
  • Age-appropriate content filtering is automatically applied
  • Children under 13 are not shown ads, and their information is not used for ad tracking
  • Recording features for pronunciation practice are not available on accounts of children under 13

Retention of Children's Information. We collect a child's personal information only to provide the learning service the parent has agreed to: account details (username, date of birth and country) to run the account and apply age protections; learning progress, quiz results and certificates to record learning; and AI conversation history to provide personalized practice. We keep this information only as long as reasonably necessary for those purposes, and never indefinitely: account details, learning progress, quiz results and certificates while the account is in use, and we delete them within 30 days after the account has had no sign in for 12 months; AI conversation history for 12 months after the conversation, or until the account is deleted if that is sooner; voice recordings are not collected, because recording features are not available on children's accounts; parental consent records while the child's account exists and for 12 months after it is deleted, so that we can show consent was given. When a parent makes a verified deletion request, we delete the child's information within 30 days.

Parental Rights:

  • Review your child's personal information
  • Request deletion of your child's data
  • Refuse to allow any further collection or use
  • Agree to collection and use without agreeing to third-party disclosure

12. Our Representative in the European Union, the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom

KOMS Services LLC is based in the United States and has no establishment in the European Union, the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom. As Article 27 of the General Data Protection Regulation and of the United Kingdom GDPR requires, we have appointed Data Protection Representative Limited, trading as DataRep, as our representative in those places.

If you live in the European Union, the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you and the data protection supervisory authorities may contact DataRep, in addition to or instead of us, about any matter relating to the processing of your personal data and the exercise of your rights.
